A new Gallup poll shows the continuing decline of employer-sponsored health care in the U.S. Don't click on that link if you want to try to guess below.

The number of people who get insurance through the government is tracking steady at 26 percent, similar to the high of 26.3 percent found in September, according to Gallup's Elizabeth Mendes.

Now the big question, can you guess the current percentage of Americans who obtain health care coverage through their employers? Here are some options for you to choose from. Guess, and then look below the photo for the answer.

  • a. 68.3%
  • b. 60.7%
  • c. 55.2%
  • d. 44.8%

Answer: d.44.8%

This decline is startling. In 1999, 59% of Americans obtained health insurance through their employers. As recently as August 2008 the percentage was at 50%. Now its just 44.8%. These numbers do not include employers who self-fund their health insurance coverage.

Thanks as always and I invite your comments.
